Summer Marquee Party - Romesh + Leesa
I had the pleasure of planning, designing and producing a fabulous end of summer party for Romesh and Leesa.
At their Sussex home, they wanted to host a summer party to celebrate their vow renewal they had earlier in the day with just their closest family members. Later in the afternoon all their close friends and family were invited to the summer party at their family home with a marquee in the garden.
Whilst working through various designs ideas and briefs, it was decided they both loved the monochrome, clean line, modern vibe so this is exactly what we created.
The vow renewal was outside, tucked away in their garden. Mad Lilies created a modern, striking backdrop for the couples vows using black iron frames with gorgeous reflexed white roses. Working with Options Greathire, we paired the floral design with these modern Masters Chairs.
PARTY PLANNING – MARQUEE PARTY
Working with Joseph Benjamin Marquees to create a quality, modern and open party space that was an extension of their garden and terrace. Guests walked through to the garden and the decking extended into the main entrance of the marquee with a wall of bi-folding doors to create a seamless look. The glass walls allowed the late evening summer sunshine to cascade in.
Superior Tack-off lining was used to create the modern, sleek walls in a graphite grey to compliment the monochrome designs.
To keep the overall design modern and make best use of the light, we incorporated glass finishes with mirrored sections to help with the light reflection from day time into the evening party. Luminaire Events custom built all the bespoke designs from a 12ft bar with matching DJ booth to a 360 degree food station.

marquee designs - hosting a marquee party
Whilst Romesh and Leesa were celebrating renewing their vows, it was important to them to keep the party vibe to the main marquee area. That guests felt welcomed into the space, were wowed by the space and more importantly it worked for the flow of the day. From welcome cocktails from the wonderful team at The Drunken Jockeys to fabulous showcase of food stations from the team at Jimmy Garcia with interactive live chefs at the stations. Including cooking from the Ofyr, we wanted a food experience that would stop guests in their tracks. There were vegan, Thai and Indian food stations with interactive chefs and the evening ended with posh kebabs…I mean they were EPIC!
MARQUEE DESIGN for a summer party
The bar of the marquee needed to be the centre stage as guests entered the marquee for the party. The Drunken Jockeys showcased their fabulous, bespoke cocktails and the champagne was ready on ice. With a the dance floor and DJ booth creating a whole different experience ready to get the guests dancing!
Anyone that has worked with me knows how important lighting is for any space. As it was late summer, we worked with the clear roof of the marquee but softened it with light white drapes so for the early part of the party, the marquee really felt like an extension of their garden and terraced areas.
In the DJ booth, retro lights were installed as part of the design and came alive at night time along with the additional carefully considered LED dance floor lights and heads bouncing off the disco balls installed in the sensational floral installation above the dance floor.
SEATING AREAs - MARQUEE PARTY
For the seating areas, we wanted to create a few smaller pockets of sociable seating and had to ensure their were plenty of side tables for the drinks and bowl food. We paired this with high top tables and bar stools to create added interest and depth into the overall design. Working with Options Greathire, we chose a variety of modern deigns to enhance the overall look.
Mixing textures is key to helping elevate the overall vision of the design with the glass, gloss and leather, the sofas were a soft black velvet to create a sense of style and warmth.

As well as the fabulous cocktails, sensational food options including a pimp your doughnut station, guests were treated to a cookie and cake station from Crumberlina Cakes.
As the evening progresses, the cocktails and champagne were flowing and guests made their way to the dance floor with DJ Rob Pursey and DJ Jaguar Skills.
We welcomed Philip White later in the afternoon to have a studio portrait session. Philip captured a shot of the guests in black and white and they were edited and printed on site ready for guests to view and take home. They were certainly a hit.
Jimmy Garcia then had the posh kebabs ready for the guests later in the evening and I have to say, they tasted soooo good!
